Job Title: Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia
Date Created: August 2022
Reports to: Head of Anaesthesia

If you are a Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia, enjoy working in a team striving to provide the best quality of care based on current evidence, and you would like to match some of the pros of academia (clinical research, supervision and teaching of residents, interns and student), with the financial rewards and challenging caseload of a private practice, this is the chance you have been waiting for!

Dick White Referrals (DWR) is looking for an American or European Diplomate in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia to join our Anaesthesia team, including 7 current diplomates, 3 clinical fellows, 4 residents, and 4 anaesthesia nurses. Founded in 2003 by Professor Dick White, DWR has grown rapidly to become the largest private veterinary referral hospital in the UK, currently with over 300 employees. DWR is a busy, purpose-built specialist referral-only small animal veterinary hospital conveniently located in Cambridgeshire between Newmarket, the home of horse racing and Cambridge, with its world-renowned University and amenities.

DWR has state-of-the-art facilities, including modern anaesthesia workstations with comprehensive haemodynamic and ventilation monitoring, and dedicated ultrasound machines for locoregional anaesthesia. The hospital is fully equipped with the surgical, diagnostic and hospitalisation facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary hospital and has an on-site reference laboratory with both in-house clinical pathology and diagnostic histopathology. DWR also has an Open Heart Surgery program in which anaesthesia is involved. Additionally, the senior anaesthetists work at the Newmarket Equine Hospital, where we train our residents and equine interns in anaesthesia. As part of our on-going drive for excellence, we have a new building underway onsite that will double the size of our facilities and create a truly world-class hospital.

We are dedicated to excellence, trust and care in all we do as a hospital, as an employer and also to the development of veterinary professionals. We are an Educational Partner with the University of Nottingham and we also have the Dick White Academy onsite and run regular CPD events. Within the anaesthesia team, we have twice weekly teaching sessions including journal club, case discussions and formal presentations on basic sciences applied to anaesthesia.

The ideal candidate is an ECVAA/ACVAA Diplomate, wishing to work full-time or part-time with small animals and horses, but applications from Veterinary Surgeons who have completed a residency in Veterinary Anaesthesia or from Specialists preferring to work only with small animals will also be considered. The position will start in January 2023.

The benefits on offer include an allowance for CPD and study / manuscript writing, long term service holidays, pension, private health insurance, employee discounts and more. The out of hours on call rota is 1:6, and when on call during a weekend, there will be two additional days of time off given to be spent within the following two weeks.

You will work alongside a team of approximately 40 Specialists in various disciplines (soft tissue and cardiothoracic surgery, orthopaedics, neurology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, clinical pathology and pathology), who together strive to achieve clinical excellence.

If you share our passion for delivering excellence, trust and care then we would love to hear from you. For enquiries and to apply, please send your CV and a covering letter to Dr Federico Corletto: fc@dwr.co.uk.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is recruited.
