Veterinary Specialists Scotland is recruiting another anaesthetist to join our team.

The hospital

Veterinary Specialists Scotland is located close to Edinburgh, but also has easy access to Glasgow, countryside, mountains and magnificent coastline. Edinburgh is a beautiful and vibrant city, famous for its festival and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Whether you are a fan of city life or like getting out to the hills, then VSS may be the place for you.

Our hospital is equipped with all the equipment and facilities that would be expected in a state-of-the-art facility to provide world class care. There is also ample space on the two floors above to expand into. Specifics to anaesthesia include:
• CT scanner, digital radiography, fluoroscopy and visiting MRI
• Two theatre suites
• Two anaesthesia dedicated induction rooms with wall mounted anaesthetic machines
• Aestiva anaesthetic machines in both theatres, CT and endoscopy
• Nerve stimulator and portable ultrasound machine for ultrasound guided nerve blocks

The Team

We are a vibrant, friendly and collaborative team, who all work together to provide outstanding patient and client care. We currently take referrals in feline and canine medicine, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics and neurology, supported by a team of Specialist anaesthetists and diagnostic imagers. We are actively expanding the team and have three medicine clinicians, a growing soft tissue service and will soon be joined by a Specialist cardiologist. Our team of interns ensure hospitalised patients receive care out-of-hours, although we are always available to support them.

Our expanding nursing team has a wealth of experience in referral practice and supports our vision of providing excellence in patient care. In turn, the nurses are assisted by the veterinary care assistants and we also have a strong client care team to deal with administrative aspects.

The anaesthesia team comprises 2 ECVAA diplomates, one clinician and one anaesthesia nurse.

As part of the Linnaeus Group we also have access to support from a wide number of referral hospitals.

The Position

We are looking for a personable clinician with enthusiasm to develop the service. Diploma holders and candidates who have completed an anaesthesia residency will be considered. Participation in a shared out of hours on-call rota is expected. The anaesthesia team is expected to assist the nursing team with sedations and general anaesthetics, patient assessment, analgesia plan and perioperative patient care. Anaesthetists are also heavily involved in teaching rotating interns and nurses.
